Time-sensitive information
Your physical and emotional safety come first and foremost. Make the choices that feel best for you.
After experiencing harm or assault, you may wish to seek urgent medical attention such as treating injuries, checking for injuries that aren't apparent, getting tested for STI exposure, and potentially collecting forensic DNA evidence that can be used for reporting. Some aspects of getting medical attention are time-sensitive (within 72 hours of the incident). You always have the option to contact a confidential advocate for help.
For assistance with your options and/or transportation/accompaniment to medical care after experiencing sexual assault and/or relationship violence, please call one of the following resources:
- The PATH to Care Center at the 24/7 urgent support Care Line at (510) 643-2005
- Bay Area Women Against Rape (BAWAR) anytime 24/7 at (510) 800-4247
- National Sexual Assault Hotline at 800.656.HOPE (4673)
The closest approved site for forensic evidence collection to UC Berkeley is Highland Hospital (1411 E 31st St, Oakland, CA 94602)
Please note: Medical staff are mandated reporters, meaning that they are required to report to the police any physical evidence of a violent crime (such as bruising, tearing, or bleeding) observed during a physical exam. If you have concerns about reporting, including mandated reporting, contact a Confidential Advocate.
